(R)-(-)-a-Methoxy-a-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetyl chloride (Mosher's acid chloride) is generally used as a chiral derivatizing agent. It is easily available in enantiomerically pure form. It can form diastereomers with both alcohols and amines.
Application: It was used for derivatizing D-arabinitol and L-arabinitol samples for high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) analysis for studying resolution of the diastereoisomer. Ready-to-use reagent for the determination of the enantiomeric purity of alcohols and amines after derivatization; doi:10.1038/nprot.2007.354
