What is a dielectric gel used for?
A dielectric gel encapsulates, pots, and seals electronic devices while providing electrical insulation. SYLGARD 527 flows under and around components thanks to its low viscosity, then cures to an extremely soft material that isolates circuits from moisture and contaminants and insulates against high voltages, all while cushioning delicate parts.
Why choose a soft gel instead of a firm encapsulant?
Gels cure extremely soft and retain much of the stress relief and self-healing character of a liquid, while still offering the dimensional stability of an elastomer. That combination protects delicate components from mechanical and thermal stress and lets the gel reflow and reseal around probes or leads in serviceable assemblies.
How is SYLGARD 527 mixed and cured?
It uses a straightforward 1:1 mix ratio and can cure at room temperature with no ovens required, or with heat acceleration when faster processing is preferred. Its low viscosity supports good flow under components during potting. Consult the datasheet for gel and full-cure times at your chosen temperature.
What are its electrical properties?
Dow's technical data lists dielectric properties consistent with an insulating gel, including a dielectric constant of about 2.85 at 100 kHz and very high volume resistivity on the order of 10^15 ohm-cm. Which kit size should I choose?
All three kits contain the same clear two-part gel with identical properties, so the choice depends only on volume. The 0.9 kg kit suits small-scale, prototype, or repair work, the 7.2 kg kit fits mid-volume production, and the 36.3 kg kit is aimed at higher-volume potting operations.
