Distributor technical data lists a kinematic viscosity around 125 cSt, a specific gravity near 1.06, and a flash point of roughly 101°C (214°F). Can DOWSIL 550 be used as a hydraulic or heat-transfer fluid?
Yes. It is used in hydraulic arrestors (snubbers) and hydraulically actuated valves, taking advantage of its compressibility, and it can also serve as a lubricant, heat-transfer medium, or thermostat fluid thanks to its low volatility and good heat-transfer characteristics across a demanding temperature range.
