Forensic chemists are responsible for analyzing and identifying unknown substances, such as drugs and narcotics, that are found at a crime scene. In this activity, students will learn
how forensic chemists can use simple chemical tests and reactions to help determine the
identity of an unknown substance. Students will perform a variety of presumptive tests on
an unknown substance along with a series of known controls. By comparing the test results
of the unknown with those of the controls, the most likely composition of the unknown will be determined. Teacher’s Manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included. Kit contains enough materials for 15 groups.
