What is SYLGARD 160 used for?
It is a two-part silicone encapsulant for general potting of power supplies and related electronics, including connectors, sensors, industrial controls, and transformers. Mixed 1:1 and cured, it provides mechanical protection and electrical insulation, combining good flowability with flame resistance and moderate thermal conductivity for a wide range of assemblies.
How is it mixed and cured?
SYLGARD 160 uses a simple 1:1 mix ratio of Part A to Part B and can cure at room temperature or be heat-accelerated for faster processing. The two liquid components are mixed thoroughly, then cure to a flexible elastomer. Consult the datasheet for pot life and cure times at your temperature.
Is SYLGARD 160 flame resistant?
Yes. Dow describes the material as flame resistant, and independent distributor data lists a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating. Because agency listings can vary by grade and change over time, users who need formal certification should confirm the current UL listing for their specific product and application before relying on it.
Why are the two parts different colors?
Part A is gray and Part B is off-white so the components can be told apart and their thorough blending confirmed during mixing. Both parts are required, since neither cures into the finished elastomer on its own. Combining them at the correct 1:1 ratio ensures proper cure and performance.
What does 'repackaged by KitPackers' mean?
These pails contain genuine Dow SYLGARD 160 that has been repackaged into these sizes by KitPackers, an authorized Dow repackager. The underlying material and its documented properties are the Dow product; KitPackers simply provides convenient container formats rather than altering the formulation.
