What is DOWSIL SE 4422 used for?
It is a one-part, semi-flowable, thermally conductive silicone adhesive designed to provide efficient thermal transfer for home appliances and the cooling of electronic modules. It bonds components while acting as a thermal bridge, moving heat away from the device for cooler, more reliable operation.
How thermally conductive is SE 4422?
Distributor data lists a thermal conductivity of around 0.9 W/mK, which conducts heat better than unfilled silicone. It also provides good adhesion and, per distributor data, is UL 94 V-1 recognized. How does it cure, and is the by-product corrosive?
SE 4422 is a single-component, moisture-cure adhesive that cures into a durable, low-stress elastomer with a noncorrosive by-product, which is helpful around sensitive metals and electronics. Because moisture drives the cure, deep or highly confined sections are not recommended, as they cure much more slowly.
What can SE 4422 bond to?
Distributor data indicate that it provides unprimed adhesion to a variety of reactive metals, glass, ceramics, laminates, and plastics, so it bonds many common electronic substrates without a separate primer. For demanding or unusual surfaces, verify adhesion for your specific materials before committing to production.
How long does it take to reach full properties?
Distributor data notes that more than 90% of the adhesive's full physical properties should be attained within about 4 to 7 hours, while deep-section cure is slow (roughly 0.25 inch per 7 days).
