What is DOWSIL TC-6020 used for?
It is a two-part thermally conductive silicone encapsulant used to pot and protect electrical products, PCB modules, and power electronics while dissipating heat. Dow highlights applications such as on-board chargers, automotive control units, and electric-vehicle power electronics, where both environmental protection and effective thermal management are required together.
How thermally conductive is it?
Dow characterizes TC-6020 as roughly a 2.7 W/mK thermally conductive encapsulant, meaning it is formulated to move heat away from components far better than an unfilled silicone. It also offers excellent dielectric properties and adhesion to aluminum, combining electrical insulation with a useful thermal path in one material.
Why is Part A white and Part B gray?
The two components are supplied in different colors so they can be visually distinguished and their blend confirmed during mixing. When Part A and Part B are combined and cure, the resulting encapsulant is gray. Both parts are required, since neither cures into the finished elastomer on its own.
Does the material need special preparation before use?
Thermally conductive encapsulants contain higher levels of fillers, so product that has been stored for a long period should typically be agitated or rolled before mixing to redistribute settled filler. This helps ensure consistent thermal and physical performance. Always review the product and Safety Data Sheets before handling.
How does it cure?
TC-6020 is described by Dow as a heat-cure product with good flowability, and cure begins as soon as the parts are mixed, progressing through a viscosity rise and gelation to a solid elastomer. Pot life and cure time depend strongly on temperature, so consult the data table for your process conditions.
