FAQs
What is DOWSIL EI-2888 designed to protect?
It is an optically clear, self-priming silicone encapsulant that protects LEDs and circuit boards from moisture and surface contaminants. It is designed for indoor and outdoor LED lighting, explosion-proof and high-ingress-protection-rated luminaires, and outdoor displays, all while preserving the optical performance those applications require.
What does 'primerless' or 'self-priming' mean here?
Standard encapsulants often require a separate primer and thorough cleaning for adhesion. EI-2888 is self-priming, so it requires only good cleaning of the substrate rather than an additional primer step. This can simplify the process and reduce the number of materials and operations on the production line.
How is EI-2888 mixed and cured?
It uses a simple 1:1 mix ratio of Part A to Part B and cures at room temperature, with optional heat acceleration for faster processing. Because it carries its own moisture source, cure progresses evenly through deep sections and confined spaces, which suits fully potted light fixtures and assemblies.
How can it be dispensed?
The encapsulant supports many methods, including automatic static or dynamic metering, manual mixing, and flow, pour, or needle dispensing, as well as hand stirring and centrifuge mixing. That flexibility lets manufacturers match the material to existing equipment and to a wide range of fixture shapes and production volumes.
Do I need to order both Part A and Part B?
Yes. Part A and Part B are the matched halves of one system and are combined 1:1 to cure. Neither part works alone, so both pails are required to use the product. Order them together and store per the Safety Data Sheet guidance for best results.
