FAQs
What is RTV-3010-S Catalyst used with?
It is the catalyst for Dow's RTV-3 series silicone mold-making rubbers, such as SILASTIC RTV-3110 Base. Mixed into a compatible base, it drives the cure to a firm, flexible silicone. It is supplied as catalyst only, so a separately purchased base is required to use it.
Why is the catalyst blue?
The blue tint lets users visually confirm the catalyst has been thoroughly mixed into the silicone base, which helps ensure a uniform, reliable cure. Once fully blended into the base at the correct ratio, the tint does not change the final appearance of the cured mold or part.
What mix ratio should I use?
Dow's mold-making data indicates RTV-3010-S is used at a 10:1 base-to-catalyst ratio with bases like RTV-3110. Accurate proportioning matters, since wide departures from the recommended ratio can alter cured properties. Always confirm the ratio for your specific base in its technical data sheet.
Are there materials it should not be used with?
Yes. Dow advises against using RTV-3010-S (or RTV-3000 F) when molding polyesters, because the polyester can inhibit the cure. For polyester molds, Dow recommends a different catalyst. When in doubt, test a small area for proper cure before committing to a full mold.
Is this catalyst REACH compliant?
According to the LabPro description, RTV-3010-S is a reformulated, REACH-compliant version of the original S Catalyst. For regulatory documentation specific to your region or program, confirm the current compliance status and request the appropriate paperwork, and review the Safety Data Sheet before handling.
