What is RTV-3000 F Catalyst used with?
It is a catalyst for Dow's SILASTIC RTV-3100 series mold-making rubber bases. When mixed with a compatible base, it forms a pourable system that cures at room temperature into a high-strength, flexible silicone suited to detailed molds. It is supplied as catalyst only, so a base is required separately.
What kind of molds is it suited for?
Distributor data describe the resulting rubber as high-strength and well-suited to the detailed reproduction of figures, art objects, and similar items. Its room-temperature cure, wide service range, and shock and vibration absorption support the production of accurate, durable molds for intricate reproduction work.
Are there materials RTV-3000 F should not be used with?
Yes. Like RTV-3010-S, RTV-3000 F should not be used when molding polyesters, because the polyester can inhibit the cure, leaving the rubber gummy. Dow recommends a different catalyst for polyester molds. When unsure, test a small area for full cure before making a complete mold.
How is RTV-3000 F used with a base?
The straw-colored catalyst is combined with a compatible RTV-3100 series base at the specified ratio for that base, then mixed and poured onto the clean master. Follow the base's technical data sheet for the exact mix ratio, working time, and demold time to get consistent, repeatable results.
Any precautions for high-temperature molds?
RTV-3100 series materials may depolymerize if overheated in total confinement, so confined high-temperature pottings require a graduated post-cure that allows volatiles to escape. Keep master surfaces clean and use a release agent to aid demolding. Review the technical data sheet and Safety Data Sheet before production.
