FAQs
What is GOPTS used for?
3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane is an epoxy-functional silane coupling agent. Its silane end bonds to inorganic surfaces like glass and silica, while its epoxide end reacts with resins and biomolecules. This dual reactivity makes it valuable for adhesion promotion, surface modification, and immobilizing molecules onto surfaces.
What are the purity and identity?
This TCI product (G0210) is a minimum 97.0% (GC) grade with CAS number 2530-83-8. It is a colorless to almost colorless clear liquid, also known as glycidyl 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl ether. Confirming these identifiers ensures you receive the correct coupling agent for your application.
Why is it moisture sensitive?
As an alkoxysilane, GOPTS reacts with water, so exposure to moisture can cause premature hydrolysis and reduce its coupling performance. Keep the container tightly closed and protected from moisture, and follow the manufacturer's storage guidance to preserve reactivity for surface and adhesion work.
How is the epoxide group useful?
The epoxide (glycidyl) group readily reacts with amines, hydroxyls, and other nucleophiles, letting GOPTS link a silanized surface to resins, polymers, or biomolecules. This makes it a common choice for building functional coatings and for immobilization chemistry in diagnostics and materials research.
What sizes are available?
The reagent is offered in 25 g, 100 g, and 500 g pack sizes. Choosing a size close to your expected usage helps manage a moisture-sensitive material, since smaller quantities limit how long an opened container is exposed to repeated handling and potential moisture uptake.
